Gary Gimmler Returns To Winners Circle
By Curtis Whalin

The Checkered Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) returned to Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Saturday June 13, 2009 with 14 cars to run two heat races and a 30 lap feature race.

The first heat race should have seen the 60 of Ric Voisey and the 37 of Jason Bradford on the front row, but with the 37 still undergoing repairs from an incident during practice, it was Gary Gimmler in the 29 car that sat on the front row outside position.

Gary took the race lead at the start of the heat and held on to take the win. The 15JR was set to take the pole for the start of the second heat race with Frankie Hurst in the 6 on the outside. But the 15JR opted to start from the rear after making repairs to his vehicle after the practice race incident giving the pole to Amanda Ferguson in the number 20 car. Amanda took an immediate race lead and went on to take the heat win.

After a driver’s autograph session, the cars were pushed off for the start of the 30 lap feature race event. Geoff Styner in the 15JR had the pole with Ric Voisey in the 69 on the outside. The track went green and as 14 cars tried to get around turns one and two, the 29 car of Gary Gimmler had contact with another car and was pointed directly at the wall, managing to stop the car with its nose just up against it. The cars lined up again for a complete restart. This time they got away clean and Brian Maddox in the 82 car came from fourth place to take the early race lead. Jason Bradford in the 37 car retired from the race early on lap 3, followed by Skeeter Faulconer in the 6X on lap 11. The 4 lead cars had been running closely together since the start of the race and on lap 12, Gary Gimmler in the 29 car made a challenge for the lead and passed the 82 car to take the lead. As Gary started to stretch out a lead, the 19T driven by Robbie Hackett pulled to the infield and out of the race on lap 13, followed by Skeeter Faulconer in the 6F on lap 26. While Gary stretched out his lead, the cars running in second and third place fought it out through traffic to provide some close racing. Gary Gimmler took the win the 29 car followed by Keith Butler in the 19 car, Scotty Adema in the 67 car , Mark Gimmler in the 51 car and Amanda Ferguson in the 20 car taking fifth place. Gary also wins the Barfield Clean Sweep Award for winning both his heat race and the feature race.

The staff and racers of the CFSS would like to thank everyone for their support and hope to see you at the next race which will be back at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on July 4th.
